Our Story

Founded in 1982 by a group of local women inspired by the overwhelming needs for services in their community. The organization became a non-profit corporation in 1984. LLNWA has grown from the initial volunteer efforts to an active community organization.

Lovesick Lake Native Women’s Association (LLNWA) is a rural, Indigenous-led organization dedicated to strengthening Indigenous women, families, and community wellbeing. Rooted in Lakefield Ontario near Curve Lake and Hiawatha First Nations, we were founded to respond to local needs with culturally grounded, community-driven solutions. Our work centers Indigenous women’s leadership while supporting youth, Elders, and at-risk families through cultural revitalization, housing and systems navigation, wellness programming, and advocacy. In rural communities where services are often distant or fragmented, LLNWA serves as a trusted, culturally safe support close to home. Guided by respect, relational accountability, and a deep commitment to Indigeneity, we work to ensure that women are empowered, families are supported, and future generations remain connected to culture, land, and community.
